MEMORIES OF MINNESOTA ...
Thank you to all those
who attended the 2010 GFA reunion in the Twin Cities. I appreciate all
the kind words and notes from those who participated. There is still
time to return the evaluation forms which I've been forwarding to
Barbara Ryan who will be hosting the 2012 reunion in Macon Georgia. Your
comments and suggestion will help her to organize a successful reunion
there.
If you missed this reunion talk to those who enjoyed seeing the James J.
Hill house, St Paul Cathedral, lunch at the Minnesota Historical Society
with pillars of faces, Minnehaha Falls, Nicolett Island with all the
GRISWOLD history there and a wonderfully relaxing boat ride on the
Mississippi River including a double trip through the locks at St.
Anthony Falls. We also paid our respects to fellow GRISWOLD cousins
buried in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. The guided bus tours
included much history of both cities and showed that the Twins Cities
are not identical but more akin to fraternal twins!
Our Saturday night banquet featured an American Indian/Midwest theme
with Indian fried bread, wild rice, tender delicious bison roast and
walleye. Hopkins, a Minneapolis first tier suburb, is the raspberry
capital of the world. Our dessert featured this berry in a tasty crisp
topped with whipped cream.
An added surprise to the reunion featured Chris Hage, who recently
authored two books on Nicollet Island, which includes some of the
GRISWOLD history. One of his books is dedicated to the architecture of
the island. Five of the homes on the island were built by Frank
Griswold.
If any of you have any photos you would like me to include in a DVD of
the event please e-mail them to me. T-shirts are still available from
Grace Pongrac on our website. Her new cooler works very well!
Thanks again to all who attended and all who helped me with this event.
If you are ever in the area, do come to visit. We love company.
Your Twin Cities Hostess, Bergetta F. Monroe
